Missouri Driver's Ed: Required or Optional?
Nope. Missouri has no driver’s ed requirement on the books. You’re free to learn entirely through supervised practice with a parent or guardian.
The actual requirements
Driver’s ed is off the table, but Missouri still wants 40 hours of supervised practice, including 10 at night. Your supervisor needs to be at least 21 with a valid license. Permit age starts at 15.

Is it still worth taking?
Probably. Insurance companies knock 5% to 15% off premiums for teens who finish a certified course. A $400 driver’s ed class can save you more than that in the first year alone. Plus, professional instructors teach defensive driving techniques that most parents don’t think to cover.
Track your hours with Moda
Whether or not you take driver’s ed, you’ll need to log practice hours. Moda tracks every session automatically. Start, drive, stop. It records day vs. night, calculates your progress against Missouri’s requirements, and exports a DMV-ready log when you’re done. No paper forms, no guessing.
