Your RoadReady App Stopped Working. Here's What to Do Next.

If you’re reading this, you probably opened RoadReady this week and something went wrong. Maybe the app crashed on launch. Maybe your hours vanished. Maybe you got an error 500 when you tried to log in. You’re not alone.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve heard from families who lost months of driving logs after RoadReady pushed a broken update. Parents who’d been tracking 40, 50, 60 hours of practice with their teen suddenly couldn’t access any of it. Some got locked out entirely.

CarPlay Changes Everything

Moda is the only teen driving log app with CarPlay support.

That matters more than it sounds. When your teen is learning to drive, the last thing anyone should be doing is fumbling with a phone. With CarPlay, the session runs on the car’s built-in screen. Start, pause, end. All without touching the phone. The phone stays in a pocket or a cupholder.

We built CarPlay support because we kept hearing from parents who forgot to start their sessions because the phone was out of reach. Now it’s right there on the dash, next to the map.

No other permit practice app has this. We checked.

How to Switch from RoadReady

The whole setup takes about four minutes.

1. Download Moda from the App Store. Search “Moda driving” or “Moda permit.”

2. Pick your state. Moda loads your state’s specific hour requirements automatically.

3. Link your family. The parent creates a 6-digit family code in settings, the teen enters it on their phone. Both accounts see the same sessions after that.

4. Add your old RoadReady sessions. You can manually enter past drives in Moda through the Sessions tab. Tap the + button and enter the date, duration, and supervisor for each drive. If you had 20 sessions logged, budget about 15 minutes.

5. Or let us do it for you. If you have a RoadReady export (PDF, CSV, or even screenshots of your log), send it to us and we’ll import your hours into your Moda account for free.

What You Don’t Lose

The biggest fear we’ve heard: “I had 47 hours logged and now they’re gone.” That’s a real problem when your state requires 50. Those hours represent months of early mornings, night drives in the rain, highway practice on weekends.

Moda stores your data locally on your device with encrypted backups. Your hours don’t disappear because a server went down. If you’re offline, sessions still save. They sync when you’re back online.

Every session is signed with a cryptographic hash so your log can’t be edited after the fact. When you hand your PDF to the DMV, those hours are verified.

The Difference in Practice

Most driving log apps were built as digital checkboxes. Log the hours, print the form, move on. Moda was built by a parent who went through the permit process and thought the existing apps were bad.

GPS tracking shows the actual route driven, so you can review where your teen practiced. Weather detection logs conditions automatically, which matters in states that require wet-weather driving.
