How the timeline works
Every state has a minimum age for learner's permits and a required hold period before you can test for your license. Some states let you get a permit at 14. Others make you wait until 16.
The hold period is how long you must have your permit before taking the road test. It ranges from 0 months (Wyoming) to 12 months (Colorado, Florida, Georgia, and others). During this time, you log your supervised driving hours.
